Steph Curry praised after record 50-point Game 7 playoff win

(CNN) Steph Curry has had a lot of games Basketball Greatness unfolded. Sunday is another.

Curry scored 50 points in Golden State’s 120-100 Game 7 win over the Sacramento Kings to give the Warriors a 4-3 best-of-seven NBA playoff series.

In 2021, he tied the record for most points in a Game 7 in NBA history, surpassing his former teammate Kevin Durant’s 48 points for the Brooklyn Nets against the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.

Curry also became the first player in Warriors history with 40-plus points in 7 games, according to ESPN.

His points, 7-18 from three-point range on 20-of-38 shooting, again proved Curry’s legendary marker.

And her performance left many of her peers praising her on social media.

“Steph Curry you cynical beast lol … he built a good team … in a very tough building,” Portland Trail Blazers point guard and seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard said.

“Legendary 30. 50 pieces,” wrote 13-time All-Star Durant, while Trae Young called it an “unreal performance.”

Curry’s longtime teammate Klay Thompson, who has witnessed many of Curry’s greatest displays, told reporters: “There’s a reason he’s a two-time MVP, a Finals MVP, because he pushes us up in moments like this.”

He added: “When he’s in that zone, you’re trying to get him to his spots, get him the ball, try to get out of the way. That’s the Game 7 I’ll always remember as the Steph Curry game.”

Both Thompson and Jordan Poole struggled to score. Curry had 20 points, but his second-half explosion helped Golden State win.

In a hostile environment and facing possible playoff elimination, he helped the Warriors secure a famous win and advance to the Western Conference semifinals, where they would face the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James’ blockbuster series with the Lakers begins Tuesday.

“We’re defying the odds by playing at this high level,” Curry said. “I know everybody wants to see you fail. That’s the nature of where we are right now. We like it when we prove a lot of people wrong. That’s part of our vibe now.”
