Lincoln Heights shooting: LAPD says suspect dead after confrontation that injured 3 officers

(CNN) A suspect is dead after a confrontation that injured three Los Angeles Police Department officers Wednesday night, authorities said.

Police were called to the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles to investigate an at-large parolee and found the man “refused to comply with commands,” LAPD Assistant Chief Alfred LaBrada said at a news conference.

K-9 officers used gas in an attempt to get the suspect to comply, but the man refused, police said.

“At some point during the search, the suspect got out and opened fire on the officers, injuring three officers,” Labrada said.

At the very least According to LaBrada, one officer fired shots, but how many officers fired and how many shots were fired remains under investigation.

The injured officers — described as senior K-9 officers — were all taken to an area hospital, where they were listed in stable condition, police said.

Paroli was later found dead after an hour-long police search, LAPD Commander Stacey Spell said.

The parolee has not been identified and it is unclear how the suspect died.

A citywide tactical alert was issued Wednesday evening as the standoff erupted, with aerial footage from the scene showing a large police response in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood.

“Every day, the men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department put themselves in harm’s way,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said at a news conference. “Tonight is a reminder that the danger is very real. With these three brave officers in stable condition, I am relieved and grateful to have been able to speak with two of them as I checked in now.”
