Hassan Reddick requests a trade; What are the pass rusher’s best landing spots?

How will you remember Hassan Reddick’s time with the New York Jets?

The Jets finalized a trade for Redick with the Philadelphia Eagles on April 1st. Redick wanted a better deal, which was accomplished and he requested a trade on Monday. Hope you didn’t buy that authentic Reddick Jets jersey.

If the Jets sign Redick, every team should look at him. There are two players with double-digit sacks in each of the past four seasons: Myles Garrett and Reddick of the Cleveland Browns. Every team in the NFL wants to add an extra pass rusher before the season starts.

In each team (Including the Jets, insist they won’t trade Reddick) can use Redick, where are the best landing spots for a veteran pass rusher?

The Falcons haven’t had a top-end pass rusher in years, and they selected quarterback Michael Benix Jr. instead of taking a shot in the first round of the NFL Draft. The Falcons have plenty of speed coming off the season, but still need help in their pass rush.

Redick’s pass rush gives him instant credibility. For a team looking to win the NFC South, this would be a huge addition before the season even starts.

The Bears acquired a pass rusher last season when they traded for Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders. When the sweat arrived, the bears’ defenses got an immediate boost. The only problem this season is the Bears’ lack of a bookend pass rusher to help avoid sweat double teams.

The Bears will be very dangerous on the defensive line with Reddick. There is room in the salary cap for him. It’s a question of trading future draft capital for a 29-year-old player while the Bears are still developing, but it could be a fun fit.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Cannon knows Reddick from his time as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, and the Cardinals need help on defense. They are inefficient on that side of the ball, although some young players in their lineup have flashed early in the preseason. Another team that wouldn’t be too smart to trade draft picks while rebuilding, but Redick will immediately become the Cardinals’ best defensive lineman. And he’s familiar with the franchise, having been a first-round pick out of Arizona and playing there from 2017-2020.

Much of the Dolphins’ defensive success rests on the health of Jaylen Phillips and Bradley Chubb after season-ending injuries. Buying reddit can help reduce that pressure. Losing Shaq Barrett to retirement early in camp didn’t help. The Dolphins aren’t afraid to trade for established players. They ended up with Tyreek Hill and Jalen Ramsey. The win-now itch may be there as the Dolphins missed out on the AFC East championship last season.

Well, that won’t happen. But admit it: It would be incredible if the Eagles paid pennies on the dollar to reacquire Reddick in a trade.

Why not? The Chiefs are a win-now summary of the team; Winning a third straight Super Bowl would make history of sorts. The Chiefs’ defense is very good and very strong up front, but who wouldn’t want to add a player coming off an 11-sack season? The Chiefs might not be able to shake it off because of Reddick’s contract desires, but it’s a fun scenario to think about.
