HARTFORD – NBC Connecticut 12-year-old girl killed in drive-by shooting

A 12-year-old girl is dead and an 18-year-old man is in critical condition after a shooting in Hartford Thursday night, police said.

Secret Bears, 12, of Hartford, was a 6th through 8th grade student at Milner Middle School in Hartford, and the school department said support services would be increased throughout the day Friday.

Secret was in a parked vehicle when he was shot in the head and stomach, police said.

Pierce was initially listed in critical condition but died at 7 a.m. Friday.

“This is a painful day in our community,” Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said Friday morning.

“I’m at a loss for words,” she told Secret Family, “and we’re all so sorry.”

Bronin Secret said she is a 7th grader.

A 12-year-old girl has died after being shot during a shooting in Hartford Thursday night. Officials held a press conference on the shooting incident.

An 18-year-old boy is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, police said.

“It’s very sad, very unfortunate,” Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert said during a news conference Thursday night.

After the ShotSpotter left, officers responded to Huntington Street and found the 18-year-old man near the girl inside a vehicle parked on the side of the road.

A 16-year-old male and a 23-year-old male were shot and taken to a nearby hospital. Police said their injuries were not life-threatening.

The 12-year-old said, “It had nothing to do with it.” Authorities believe the three men who suffered gunshot wounds were targeted.

Video surveillance in the area captured footage of a vehicle driving by and shots being fired at three people, officials said. Police do not know if the shots were returned. Officials are working to release the vehicle details to the public.

The Major Crimes Unit is investigating. Detectives are reviewing surveillance video of the knock on the door as part of their investigation.

The police believe that the incident may have taken place on purpose.

Bronin calls on three other people who were shot to help investigators figure out who fired the bullets that killed the 12-year-old girl.
