Cameron Young shoots a historic round of 59 at the Travelers Championship.

Cameron Young made a splash at the Travelers Championship on Saturday, posting a 59 in the third round of the tournament.

The result marked the 13th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history and kept the 27-year-old American within striking distance of the lead after starting 11 shots back.

It was the first sub-60 score since 2020 when Scotty Scheffler shot a 59 at the Northern Trust at TPC Boston. Scheffler, who struggled at the US Open last week, is second at 17-under after Round 3.

Young, hours ahead of the leaders, recorded seven birdies, two eagles and no bogeys throughout 18 holes to finish at 11-under.

He finally completed the historic score with a well-placed putt on the 18th hole.

In an interview after his round, Young said he didn’t expect the day to go so well.

“I’ve had some mediocre results lately, but I feel like the golf I’ve been playing has been better, and things like today start happening and I feel like I’ve been rewarded for good shots. It’ll leave a good taste in my mouth tomorrow,” Young said.

With his total of -13, Young was briefly the clubhouse leader, but on Saturday Tom Kim held the lead at -18, with Scheffler and Akshay Bhatia tied for second one stroke behind him. Young advanced to the final round in a tie for 10th place.
