This is the 13th Duck Boat Parade through the streets of Boston. Work on preparing the duck boats cannot begin until the night before the parade, as they are used on tours until the evening.
“First we remove the seats, install the floor, which we call the stage, remove the roofs or move forward, clean the ducks, put the netting, and get them all ready to go.”
said Tom Vigna, the company’s director of marketing and sales.
Duck boats were first used as a form of crowd control for the 2002 New England Patriots Super Bowl victory parade.
According to the company, then-Mayor Tom Menino approached them because the vehicles would allow them to see Patriots players without the opportunity for those players to mob.
